New Jersey Motorcycle Helmet Law

One of the most essential pieces of safety gear every motorcycle rider should wear at all times is a helmet. Statistics indicate that riders are three times more likely to die from a head injury when they are not wearing a helmet at the time of a crash than they would be if they were wearing a helmet. Motorcycle helmet laws vary from state to state so it is important that you are aware of the laws in the state of New Jersey before you get on the road.

The state of New Jersey requires every motorcycle rider to wear a helmet at all times. If you have any questions or concerns about the motorcycle helmet law in the state of New Jersey, do not hesitate to contact the New Jersey motorcycle accident lawyers of Levinson Axelrod, P.A., by calling 800-346-5529. We would be happy to advise you of the legal requirements and the consequences of breaking the helmet law.

The Helmet Law

Motorcycle accidents can be very dangerous and may put you at risk of a serious injury or even death. Each year in the state of New Jersey there are approximately 2,500 motorcycles involved in crashes, and 2,000 injuries and 70 deaths occur as a direct result. Because of the danger posed by these accidents, and the potential for severe head injury, New Jersey state law requires all riders to wear a helmet that is tightly secured and properly fits the rider or passenger. The helmet must be DOT approved with a neck or chin strap, and reflective on both sides.
