New Jersey man struck while crossing street

A man from New Jersey man was struck by a car while crossing Sycamore Street. The 27-year-old was struck around 10 p.m. on Friday in Newton.

The victim was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. Detectives were at the scene of the accident trying to determine the cause, but the accident remains under investigation.

The accident occurred on the first day of Newton’s Pedestrian Safety Week that was put into place to help protect pedestrians and inform drivers on the risk and laws that are in place to protect pedestrians.
