A 77-year-old Newark man lost control of his Pathfinder early this morning around 5:45 a.m., rear-ending a 56-year-old Rahway man’s Tacoma on the Garden State Parkway near Exit 148.
The crash forced the Tacoma over a guardrail, causing the car to roll down the embankment and strike a third vehicle below on North Walnut street. The Pathfinder glanced off of the Tacoma and slammed into a concrete divider.
While the driver of the third vehicle was uninjured, the 56-year-old driver of the Tacoma was seriously injured and remains in critical condition. The driver of the Pathfinder suffered facial injuries but is now in stable condition. Both men are currently being held at University Hospital in Newark.
Police report that alcohol was most likely not involved in this accident.
